If DEXA is the gold standard, why add bioimpedance?

Because precision and frequency are different problems. DEXA answers "where is this patient, accurately?" Bioimpedance answers "which direction are they moving, right now?" Managing an active intervention requires the second question answered far more often than a DEXA schedule allows.

Is bioimpedance accurate enough to act on?

It's an estimation method, not a reference standard — and that's exactly why it's paired with DEXA rather than replacing it. Its strength is repeat measurement under consistent conditions, where the trend line is highly informative even if any single absolute value carries more variance than DEXA.

How do we keep the two data sets consistent?

Anchor with DEXA, then standardize bioimpedance conditions — same time of day, similar hydration status, consistent pre-scan instructions. Interpret bioimpedance as trend data relative to the DEXA baseline rather than as a direct substitute for its absolute values.

Does the bioimpedance device require oversight or a licensed technologist?
